Hoping someone well-trained in European paintings, French Impressionism (post impressionism?) can help decipher this signature. Large heavy paint strokes; wonderful quality work, there HAS to be other extant examples of this artist's work! There is a sticker on the back identifying the stretcher origins which suggests Paris. I tried isolating the strokes I could identify viewing it in HD and using black marker and shading on white paper to see if any names "emerged" (see pic). Some letters are questionable. Not 100% sure, for example, if there is a "p" on the end of the signature as some of the paint underneath the letters is so dsrk. Are you (or anyone you know) able to positively identify this signature? I am not a fine arts expert and would be most appreciative to know who the artist is. Any enlightening info, thoughts, ideas welcome. Thank you.
Nice painting
Thank you! Just solved the mystery! A wonderful staff person named Mary at the Carnegie Library and I have been working on this for a few weeks. I did some lucky searches and solved: A de Chanteloup. Again, thanks for your comment!
