As collectors of glass, we probably all know that Vaseline glass glows when exposed to a black light. This is due to the Uranium Dioxide that is added to the glass formula. However not only Vaseline glass, as described by its Yellow or Yellow/Green color, has cornered the market on the ability to glow when exposed to a black light, but so many other pieces do too.
Glass like Custard glass, and Burmese glass in various stages of development also glows. These types of glass may be the obvious as glass that glows. However, there are many types of glass and colors of glass that may glow, that you may not expect. Many less experienced collectors may find this surprising. Just take your black light and move it around your collection and see what glows, it may shock you because you may have never even considered checking because it does not fit the stereotype that one would think.
As a collector of Victorian Art Glass shakers and condiment sets, I often find and am sometimes surprised by what glows in my collection. I’ve found that that various shades of blues, yes blues, which in my mind was a bit surprised when I first discovered that a number of years ago. It does not seem to be from any particular manufacturer either.
