This original gun box, was made somewhere between 1805 to 1860.... although it wasn't used for the gun by my family... as my great great grandfather kept his tailoring pieces in it, and would travel round the pubs near the River Thames taking orders back in Victorian London.
We still use the gunbox in our tailors here today....
Its so well made, beautiful dovetail joinings, tiger stripe bias cut wood, all the brass screws (the old ones not cross head) all align.
Its quite long, no warping at all.. which amazes me, the box is heavy as anything, probably weighs more than the gun did....
On the outside is a big round brass disc, I expect where the owner would have his initials engraved, for me the label is wonderful... so much detail...
