Hi. This was my uncle's buckle. He passed away when I was little and it's just been sitting on a shelf in my China cabinet ever since. Well, I have a friend (same name) whose birthday is coming up and am thinking about giving to him. I'm wondering, tho, how to clean it without damaging it? Or, should I at all? I don't know anything more about it besides it's got weight to it & most likely brass, I believe. Any and all advice would be much welcome and appreciated. Thank you! And have a wonderful day!
I'd leave it as it is. I'm not sure that it has any great age. Your friend could then decide whether to politish or not.
It is brass, and is probably from the 1970s or 1980s. Don't clean it. The patina adds interest!
