Hi, So recently we inherited a family spoon we have always loved and just want to see if anyone could tell me anything about it. Annoyingly I have looked everywhere and am unable to find any marking on it.
Does this mean it is not silver?
The family was from Sweden and then later the UK, I have found an image online with a similar head and it said it was a "souvenir from Italy C1889"? Would this one be from the same period and place? What would its intended use be? the step in the neck is a bit strange.
Total length is 23 cm, bowl 7cm, neck/handle 15cm, ram 1cm.
if anyone can help.
thanks Nicola
Just cos there's no marks it doesn't mean its not silver ! It looks v good quality and the style could easily be from that date !! It's quite possibly a hollow shaft too ..
Love it and good luck finding another ;-)
Have you checked the rams head for a very small mark ?? Maybe a diamond shape or similar ,,?
what a funny icon for a spoon! [i'm going to ram this spoon down your throat if you don't eat your peas!]
Lol ho2 :-)
Hmm have had a really good look, have noticed something new around the band above the head 4 impressed dots a gap and the 2 more. But no daimond shape etc any idea where it might hide? N
Hi , it may not be marked !!. But from past experiences sometimes the smallest marks have been found in creases say in the horns or back of the head round the collar on the stem & front/back of bowl. You could do with a 9x magnifyer loop which is what I use :-)
