Great old Defence Department mallet which looks like it has never struck a thing?
Both sides are the same with no evidence of striking.
Has the DD logo with broad arrow on one face as the 2nd photo shows.
It seems to be based on the British version as I researched WW2 tent mallet and one came up on ebay. It looked the same even with the anti splitting rivet pins though this one is definitely Australian wood. The handle is a Eucalypt with a small gum vein present. The head could be a Eucalypt but more likely Ironwood?
