Can anyone tell me what this is exactly. Someone has suggested it's a chicken bone holder, or a corn cob holder???? Could it be a medical instrument??? It is silver plated brass. It's VERY SHARP on the bottom edge which open and grabs whatever you put inside the jaws. The top parts push together with a spring action, and that makes the bottom jaws open wide to insert SOMETHING! The spring action is VERY STRONG, and the spikey jaws are VERY SHARP and would grip onto whatever was inserted with very stong pressure. Thanks. Melody
Would LOVE to know any info about this strange item.
What a strange object, really piqued my curiosity. This doesn't look like a bone or corn cob holder to me, at least not like any that I've ever seen, but who knows. Its kind of odd that it says patent on it, a bit out of place somehow, I wish there were a patent number on it, that would solve the problem. I'll try and do some more research on it later, hopefully someone else has some udeas about what it might be. Interesting object nonetheless.
Hi BinaryReflex - thanks for taking the time to comment. I also don't think its either, as all antique corn holders I have ever seen have a sharp blade that goes up the middle of the cob. The only thing I would add to the description is that the bent flat metal spring thingo in the middle of the top leaves part, is VERY STRONG, and the jaws are VERY SHARP and its too painful to put your fingers in and let go of the spring, so it would hold SOMETHING pretty firmly! Bu WHAT????
Also, the metal is silver plated brass according to my local jeweller.
