      yale and towne locks have been around since the mid 1800's, can you find a number on this one, does it use a flat key or barrell. you say there is roundness to the top of the trunk? looks flat to me. email the pictures so i can blow them up

      marvin, at this at thisoldtrunk.com can probably look right at it and have a fair idea of what it is. i'm still thinking flat top, from late 1800's to early 1900's
      is that a shipping label on the back,? does it have any info?

      Your canvas covered semi-flat top trunk (slightly curved) has hardware that is most common on trunks from the 1880's to 1890's. The latches were patented in 1878 but were used for many years. Those type handle holders and the large flat slat clamps are mostly an 1880's to 1890's style, but it could be a little later. Anyway it's sometime between about 1880 to 1900 most likely. Looks like it's got a lot of rust to be cleaned off.
