Anyone have a clue what this is? I found it today for a few dollars and grabbed it because I thought it is interesting. Part of me thinks it could be some kind of primitive/tribal tool. But the end piece depicts a very art nouveau flower in sterling. The materials are sterling silver and perhaps horn? Maybe it is tusk or bone, but def. sterling. Also it is marked "Sterling" so it is most likely American. Anyone have a clue what it is or what it is made of? Thanks!!!!
Got me BHock!
bobby, no opening on big end and no, none of the silver pieces come off. they are nailed or tacked on there.
blunder thanks for the love and comment, jscott and bobby thanks!
Could may have been the top, or "button" of a stick / cane?
agram, I am not sure but I don't think so. It doesn't look like it was broken off of something.
miklv and kyrantango thanks for the loves!!!
What could this be..
pw-collector thanks for the love.
Just an indication of the size ...
Is it one piece of bone ?
Vetraio, I was going to answer your questions without looking at the item closely again, but I decided to double check......good thing I did! It is not one piece of bone. The center sterling silver collar can slide a bit and underneath it is a perfectly sized and cut wooden insert that is holding the piece of bone together. I could post of picture of it if my description is unclear.
The size is 9 inches long by about 2 inches wide at the end.
thanks ho2cultcha for the love!
The two pieces suggest that it was not a tool for heavy use I think. Some ceremonial or decorative function?
Hi vetraio, I agree that it was not for heavy use. Perhaps something else was attached at the pointed end? I cannot imagine what is is. It is strange how that wooden piece is attached as well. Thanks for helping!!!!
Handle from a sword-cane?
