So I did solve this myself after visiting stained glass and metal working shops and clubs in Sun City West. (All sympathized with me, but none would touch it.) I first took out the glass--very delicate operation--and cleaned that. Managed not to break any of the soft metal tabs when I bent them to loosen the glass. Then I gooped on plenty of JB Weld (or something similar) where the metal on the shade was separating. Next I attached clamps to push the shade back into place and hold it there. Gooped some more JB Weld over the separated-glued seams and waited a couple of days. Released the clamps and waited a day to make sure the weld did not separate. Replaced the glass, again without breaking the tabs, and it's been looking good ever since.
