I would say it is a palm saver for starting fires .
    4. Reima, 14 years ago
Nancy S. is on a roll she really knows her stuff. yes it is a palm protecter for starting fires usingthe "bow method." This is so sweet you can tell it was used in the left hand!!
    5. Nancy Salisbury, 14 years ago
The only reason I knew what it was is because I have a friend who is really into this stuff . He has shown me some of his artifacts .

Yes! Yes! Yes! I keep one in my hunting gear all the time. I live in Alaska and with that Palm protector, a stick and boot string you can make FIRE! And with fire you can make the tools you need to stay alive.

M.D.DeMetz, .. I always knew it WAS something didn't find out exactly WHAT until about 2 yrs ago. A friend who belongs to the Society of Primitive Technologies identified it for me. Fire was/ & is a must for survival.
F.Y.I. you might want to add a lens of some sort to your survival gear.. just for a
back up. (broken pair of binoculars) slip the lens into an old sock and you have an easy way to start a fire provided the sun is shining!
