These very cool old fuel Barrels were used to transport kerosene, gas and diesel from refineries to Service Stations and even to end users like farmers who had accounts. I love the old Root Beer shapes of many of them and it just doesn't seem right to have a collection of Service Stations, Porcelain Signs, Antique Cars & Trucks and not have a Barrel Collection to go with it all. At some point we hope to get enough to put them on a display delivery Truck at the aaaLakeside Storage Museum so people can see how gas was delivered in the early days. My grandkids ask if these were used when "I was a little kid"? That tells you how old they think I am.

Amer. steel barrels are too thin for making "steel-drums". British barrels are used. That comes under the heading of: Interesting, but totally useless information.

      Blunderbuss,
So the Carribean drums made of barrels are only made from British Barrels? These are very heavy & thick barrels so the British must really be heavy if the gauge if steel is that much thicker. Very interesting. Thx

Of course, I am referring to modern oil drums/barrels.

      Blunderbuss2,
Ahhhhh! That makes more sense. In the old days when the Carribean drums were invented they could probably use a lot of what was then available. Newer US drums would be too thin to make good music. Got it. Lots of US stuff "doesn't make good music" these days.

      New British drums still work.

      Hey Rattletrap,
Love it. Nice set of early various steel barrel types. I am glad that somebody else out there appreciates these older barrels. All pre-date 1930 as far as I can tell. Interesting that they are all galvanized. If I ever make it through Provo, I will be sure to stop in to see your museum.

Thx for the comment. The reason they are all galvanized is because we only collect the galvanized barrels. :):). Yes they are all very old 1903 is not the oldest one as one was made in SLC that looks like it's older.
