Karahvi 2519 found at my favourite op-shop on a Thursday !!!
It is usually Tuesday but this week I had to do lunch at Est with my partner Paul and our bestie Lois. Two days later I headed down the road and saw this immediately I walked out in .... why on earth was it still there?
Perhaps it was the muck at the bottom?
I knew it would be able to be cleaned fairly easily.
It was dirt ... not calking ... the signs were good.
It took me three or four tries to get it all out !!!
But in the meantime I was handling it ... by cleaning it I began to understand the design even more. It really was a well designed carafe ... it sits so comfortably in the palm of your hand. It could well have been used at Est two days before ... silver service !!!!
It comes in two colours: an amber and this olive green.
Some are signed with a TS for Timo Sarpaneva. This one is not signed. That fact does not bother me because I've come across unsigned TS pieces before .... this one just retains remnants of the Iittala of Finland sticker.
The height is 250 mm or 9.843".
It holds 75 cl. or 1.585 US liquid pints.
It seems this is early Sixties production.
I wonder if there are glasses accompanying it?
