Early 1950's Schwinn Hornet Bicycle. Judging from the paint under the fenders it was originally green or turquoise. Has springer fork. The chain-guard says hornet on it. It has a banana seat but I dont think that it is the original seat for the bike.

That's not the corrrect chain guard either. I would look for the serial number and go from there, I think on these it was under the crank hub....
This is really a 'Franken Bike' you are also missing the straight tubes from the fork and it has an extra kick stand? and it was not called a 'springer' it was dubbed 'Knee Action' by Schwinn............
OOPS ! wrong tires and wheels also. the frame looks to be correct for the tank......

@youngpicker, I don't buy things or sell things here or anywhere.......... you can trace my time on here unlike these who jump in and out very nice find and I hope you find the stuff to restore it with . Good Luck.
nice bike, but it looks as if the spokes and the master link on the chain are incorrect.
Finding replacements for all the parts is easier said than done, the parts cost more than I paid for the entire bike. My has a 57 chevy that when restored is going to be turquoise and white. When he gets ready to paint it, we're going to restore this bike to match the car. We'll use the same paint and I bought new whitewall tires for it and all the parts will be sandblasted and re-chromed.
Also, that part hanging down on the back isn't an extra kickstand, whoever owned the bike before me, when they put the banana seat on there they also put a sissy bar on there, that is part of it hanging off the back.
Doing a resto to match the Chevy is very cool! Resell the seat & handlebars or reuse on another bike. I like the banana seat looks on the larger cantilever frame, you should check out ratrodbikes dot com. That's one of the prettiest tanks I've seen.
After about a month of trying to get it apart, the bike is completely in pieces right now except for the crank. I need to get some more sand for the sandblaster before I can start working on it. Except right now it's too hot to work on something like that so I probably wont start on it till it cools off in the winter.
