This rare 1960s transistor radio was made by the Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in Japan and is one of the great collectible radios of the period. The Mitsubishi Electric Corporation was founded in 1921 and has been setting trends in electronics on a global basis ever since. This 7-transistor Model 7X-164 radio is hard to find and is in excellent cosmetic condition complete with the original black leather case and even the ear phone. The flawless bright orange case with white rear panel and clean simple lines sets this radio apart. This piece measures about 4.25" by 2.5" by 1.25" thick. It amazingly is in working condition after some 40 years of storage, but could certainly use a good cleaning and professional re-conditioning.
I love transistor radios! Do you have many of these? I have a few posted here if you'd like to look at them. They're like little time capsules. The technology is still "new" enough to make them relevent... I mean, it's a pocket radio for cripes sake...But everything else about them is so nostalgic. You have a nice one there!
my mitsubishi 7x-550 looks different than yours (horizontal). What battery does it take? (just picked it up a few minutes ago). thanks, mike
I am fascinated with Mitsubishi and have several transistor radios by Mitsubishi. Does anyone know of a complete listing of transistor radios made by Mitsubishi? I actually never knew the 7X-164 existed let alone the 7X-550, wow!
Just picked up a 6X-140 in great shape and works good.
Does anyone know the value of this model, I see other models
are pretty pricey. Thank You
