As bells go, this is the most beautiful one I've ever seen. The "ting-a-ling" sound isn't loud enough for a sleigh bell. There are no maker's marks or other marks on it. The design looks to be 1920s, but I have nothing to compare it to so it's just a guess. This bell is comparable in size to a golf ball.
This bell doesn't really look like brass - the color doesn't seem right. Wonder if it's bronze. It does have some weight to it, too.
I'd be interested to hear what you all think.
Thanks for looking!
Lovely find, I'd have grasped it too ; -)
Bronze maybe. My mom had similar bell to this. She got it as a child from her grandmother that was in the early 50s snd she said that it was a gift for her daughter's wedding in 1930.
robin56 - that's interesting! Do you know if the bell is still around somewhere?
kyra - after I grabbed the bell, I handed it to the stall holder to keep for me while I looked in a box underneath her stall. Another woman saw the bell and wanted to buy it. "Sorry, it's sold", said the stall holder. Hehehehe...
Promise it was not me, hehehe, never been to Netherland :-)
LOL kyra, but you aren't that far away! :-)
That is so lovely, Bonnie, awwww. :)
Thanks, kath...now I need to find a nice bronze bud vase to put it in - add some pipe cleaners for stability...or put it on a chain and wear it around my neck, lol!!
Google antique rose baby bell...You should see it there...Similar
