This unsual artifact is made of sandstone. Found in Napa Co., Calif near the banks of a year round creek. I thought at first it might be a Charm Stone, but after rereading the discription of Charm Stones I don't believe it fits wrong shape.
As you can see it is made of sandstone and is flat on the bottom around the top (?) the neck does show wear marks as it bound. Anyone have an idea what it is ? Hey |Nancy S. got any ideas? I'm stumped!
I would only have to guess as I do not know . It is rather small , could it be a small grinding stone of some sort ? Maybe for grinding grain or nuts on the trail ?
It almost looks as though it once had a handle attached to the top part sort of like a tomahock but it is so small .
kinda looks like it could of been a club
Yes that is what I was trying to say when I said tomahock . It does look like it could be some sort of club .
I found it at a seasonal habitation site. It reminds me of a head of a small hammer but you must remember it is made of sandstone.
Not the best choice unless it were to crack nuts or pinecones.
