This is one eye popping and heavy piece of jewelry, it's more of a choker that a full length necklace. I initially though it was glass but after visiting Barse's website I found that this necklace is actually made of red bamboo coral with a .925 silver clasp. The hang tag is stamped Barse "China". While they don't make this necklace anymore there were comparable bracelets of the same material and a couple of online images which were old and didn't link to anything that I could check. Their pieces are not cheap most average between 50-150 dollars and even more. I figure this originally cost around forty to sixty dollars or so, but I could be wrong. -Mike-
Thrift shop find? Very nice!!
Thanks Ken and Bonnie :).... yep my favorite Salvation Army . It's the only place I can find jewelry like this without paying retail.
I have not seen these before Mike. Good one!
Thanks Karen...it looked like Murano glass or agate to me. The last thing I would have thought was coral. The sections are so huge and heavy. I found a picture of the coral. I can now see how they can just slice it into discs and polish it.
Thanks Val :)... it was a combination of the weight and color that intrigued me. This type of coral is really interesting in it's natural state.
Hi,mikelv85! I don't remember were I read it but this company is known for using mostly natural stones/materials. That's something I really like on more recent jewelry. I have a Barse necklace, too, but I am not sure what the stones are. My guess is that mine could be glass. http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/158157-barse-sterling-festoon-necklace-with-gre
