I remember having one like this back in the 80s may have been the 70s. It was not painted but pretty much the same thing. It was a bit messy to use but the cans looked nicer than the plastic bottles used now.
I am thinking it fits in well with my vintage license plates.

I had a blue one that had sort of a rubber coating on it. I'll bet if I look hard enough I could still find it around here somewhere.
