I purchase this clock recently and I have never seen this Ansonia model before. I was hoping a professional may help me find out the year and model. Dimensions are 15 3/4" x 14" x 6 3/4". Cast iron case with amazing detail and in great condition! This piece is massive, weighing in at 37lbs.
I am a collector of mantel clocks. Most of my collection is Adamantine Seth Thomas and the Cast Iron Ansonia. I bought this clock as a non running project. I made an adjustment to the pallets on the open escapement and oiled the pivots. Amazingly, clock is running great! The movement is still very dirty, so it will need to be disassembled eventually, but I will enjoy it for a while as is. The "tick tock" on this clock sounds amazing, it echoes throughout the house. This clock has instantly become my favorite piece in the house! I just wanted to share this with you to see if anyone can help me solve this mystery. Thank you!

      Hi,

Looks like you have an Ansonia "Bombay" from circa 1904. Here's a link to another example: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/5711835_ansonia-bombay-enameled-iron-mantle-clock.

Hope that helps to solve your mystery. If so, please indicate "Mystery Solved" in your listing. If not, ask away.

Nice write up with great photos. Thanks for sharing and happy collecting! :)

Mystery solved! Thanks Bruce! I was kind of surprised by 1904. I was thinking more 1880's just based on the red marble paint and the date on the movement. I knew I could count on you find the answer!

Scott, that's very kind of you. Thank you . I try to help where I can. I think it's a great site and I've only scratched the surface in the short time I've been around. :)

Dschmid, the "tic-toc" sounds that these open escapement clocks make (also known as Brocot Escapements) is relatively loud since they are outside of the clock case. Ansonia placed many of these types of movements in Enameled Iron, Crystal Regulator and Porcelain Clock cases. All of which have hard material acoustics. If you like the sound of mechanical clocks, you'll like open escapement movements. Some folks think battery powered Quartz clock movements make too much "noise".
Definitely not a clock for them! ???? Thanks again for sharing with us.
