      Hi,
Your clock dates to the 1940's-1950's. It would be called a mantle clock, however I'm not sure there is a particular style/design name for it but you could say Mid-Century-Modern. It's a pretty clock, but I've seen a lot of them, so it's probably not hugely valuable. Thanks for sharing!
      Regards.

Also, the wood is likely oak.

I would describe the style as having Art Deco elements. It's a British Perivale Clock. They made some very nice Westminster Chiming Clocks. Another long-time collector here, rlwindle, posted an example in his collection over five years ago. See: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/6009-perivale-anvil-art-deco-chiming-mantel

Yours appears to be an 8-day spring wound Time and Strike Mantel Clock.

Here's a little information on the company: http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Perivale_Clock_Manufacturing_Co

Here is a link to "Sold" eBay listings: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=17331&_dmd=1&_ipg=200&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=perivale+clock&_sop=16

You can probably research on the internet and find a lot more information.

      Hope that helps a little.

      Good luck
