In the 1950s and 60s Japanese art glass could well have been judged not just by beauty but by size. The art glass movement deliberately made things large to be the focal point of an otherwise pared back room.

Case in point: this vase by Marti Glass.

My lego lady gives height scale, my weighing scales groaned and spat out 4.3kg.

I do love the decor of this one with the oranges and greens and black, and the deliberate use of random bubbles.
The clear case is a tad thick, yes?

I love this one too, for the colours and for the clear casing going with the flow....in proportion is what I mean!

This kind of reminds me of my White Friars molar vase. Pretty impressive ! :)

      Very attractive as always!

As to the size,I think this was a tendency in that time to create huge forms. This is visible among Polish glass designers of the era, especially in Zbigniew Horbowy glass.

Wow Karen that is a BIG piece of art glass! I love how the artist left a good bit of clear glass around the lovely interior.... it frames the the piece beautifully!
