Hi, I believe my brooch is Victorian, possibly onyx? I have never seen one like this before and was wondering if any one could give me more detailed info about it please?

This is a beautiful piece. It does look Victorian to me as well. I hope Agram.m comes across your post because she might know more:)
In the meantime, adding a couple of good photos of the back and side as well as some reference to its size would be helpful for identification.
try looking up pietra dura as well
Not stone, it's glass, 70s, going by the style, possibly Italian. One of the experts on here may have a different opinion. :)
Lovely Micromosaic, with relief motif, glass tesserae, difficult to say from pic if the high parts are stones or glass too; the background is either onyx or black glass.
Pic of the back will say age, as Davyd said!
Katherine, I feel it older than 70s but right they were Italian pieces :-)
Agram is the micromosaic specialist here!
Have a look to Agram's:

Thank everyone! Think it's older than 70's. It has a c clasp I will add another pic.
Yes, I looked at Agrams and thought it a similar type of design.
It's about 5cm wides.
I saw that set Kyratango, that how I found this site! Hopefully Agram will see it.
Bingo for victorian era!
You can comment on Agram post and ask her opinion:-)
Thanks Kyratango!
Beautiful brooch probably made around 1870 in Rome. The black background is a deep black glass drop and center this beautiful basket of flowers composed of multicolored small pieces of glass called tesserae (tiles). It is particularly unusual that the flowers are on top of the surface. These flowers are cut, as far as I can see from a photo of coral and ivory. Probably the brooch of this beautiful flower basket is brought from a trip to Rome as a beautiful cheerful reminder when taking gift from the colorful Italian life back to the drab northern part of Europe to end up this way with you.
Whether this brooch is also put in a golden, silver or vermeil setting I can not see but you can get tested by a jeweler. What I would definitely recommend. In any case, congratulations on your beautiful and special copy of Micro Mosaic !
Ah, Agram.m, I knew you would help to solve this puzzle!
freiheit I'd love to so we can help each other.
There is a comparable brooch to see here:
