Crusader 101. made by Deluxe Reading. New Jersey.Production from 1964 to 1966. over 3 feet long. Plastic. Battery operated with forward, reverse, left and right steering. Stickshift style handheld controller. Removable wheels with spare , wrench and jack. Very fragile toy, that didn't hold up to abuse. This one is still doing fine and has no broken items. Chrome has been touched up, as these had a problemwith the chrome turning black over time. One photo is of the Crusader sitting on my MGBGT hood to give an idea of its massive size. It is said that a Barbie doll will fit in the car, so sometimes little sisters would borrow it from their brother.
Love cars that can sleep six in the trunk.
@ Caperkid. Wish I could post more pics. Trunk opens and has spare tire. Nobody sleeping in there, well not the last time I checked. Had a Fury III 2 door that was great for stashing friends in to go to the drive-in, so I know what you mean. Thanks for the comment.
Nice details. Perhaps my GI Joes could drive it when they are on leave.
Haha fortapache. Be a good joe cruisin car. His fuzzy hair and beard blowing in the wind.
I had this amazing toy when I was a kid!!
How remarkable to find someone that has it STILL in great condition!!!
Even though I was very young, I took very good care of that car until my sister's friend thought it was a riding toy.
I was born a 'Car guy' (as Mr. Meguiar would say)!
I thought that the removable wheels with an actual jack and tools made me a REAL car owner!!
Thanks for posting this. Nice trip down memory lane.
