My name is Hugh, about 20 years ago I was cleaning out my grandparents attic after they passed. My grandfather was a boat builder and avid boater ( during prohibition) him and his buddys would go to Rondo Bay Canada on a regular basis to bring back liquor. In his attic I looked at the wall and saw what looked like words, at closer look it was 2 tin signs. I asked my dad to get me some plyers and a pry bar when he heard what I was doing he asked if I was making a hole in the wall, but they were used as patches long before the house got new siding. My grandparents lost almost everything during the depression and had to move into this small cottage, my dad and his brother slept on the front porch. Grandpa probably scrounged anything he could find to patch the house up. The signs were Red top malt syrup signs that measure about 1 foot x 2 foot. I wonder if he got them from the same store he bought beer making ingredients? Any way here are some photos they have a 1930 date on them. I cant find another one any were. Does any one have any info?
Thankyou Hugh
Great story! I assume you had them framed? Good touch!
