In 1929 the Erie Railroad introduced a new train, The Erie Limited, offering luxury and a 25 hour schedule from NY (Jersey City, NJ) to Chicago. We see here a 24 page booklet from 1929, extolling all of the features of the new train, including lounge car, dining car, sleepers, etc. Next is an original ad from Nation's Business Magazine advertising the new train, which appeared in the June 1929 issue. The Erie Limited ticket folder is from 1934 and the Erie Route Guide is from 1930. The Erie Limited last ran in 1960. It then became the Erie Lackawanna Limited after the Erie / Delaware, Lackawanna & Western merger and soon after the merger the EL shifted all long distance trains to the Lackawanna side. The Erie Limited stopped in my home town. I could walk to the station from my house and hop on. Now if I want to take a train to Chicago I have to go into New York City.
