They were an attempt to get that 'dry cleaner' look at home, pretty dangerous but it was the days in the 50's when consumerism was king. they did work but they were at the same time a lot of work ! Maybe someone on here with appliance experiance can tell you more...............

My grandmother had one of these console irons, it was manufactured by Hot Point in the late 1940's to the 1950's. She ironed everything from socks to sheets.
some how the name "Mango Iron" was the name of this type iron.
ttomtucker, I remember it being called a MANGLE, I guess you could get your hand caught and 'Mangled' ..........:-)
