Having just been out of the running to be felled by a flu, I'm now looking again went fine antique jewelry. And this jewel is again one of the best I've found. I'm curious what you think of this.
This Victorian Sterling Silver pendant is set with the most fine micro mosaic which is all circa 1860. Fabulous detail all round, each tiny micro mosaic tile has been hand set in Italy during the 19th Century
To find one as beautiful and pretty as this with pink / white doves is extremely rare.
The pendant has a lovely smoothness which has developed with age.
Original locket in the reverse where you can add your own memories.
Condition is excellent no tile missing. It's in excellent condition all round.
Measures 2.2 inches (5.5 cm) in length including the Silver Micro Mosaic bale, 2 inches (5 cm) without the bale and 1.2 inches (3 cm) across. This is one of my true collectors pieces.
And searching the mark this mystery was solved by Kyra and themuse This shows again how small is the world ! I have this chain and pendant from Germany. I've been looking at marks from many countries but had no idea to look at the marks of my own country. And there lies the clue. The Dutch mark (1894-1906) with 6 (left site image 4) which means only the chain weighs 30 grams.
Themuse was right about the second mark (right site image 4) this is a Dutch dolphin used from 1859-1893.
The pendant probably made approx. 1860s is not marked at all. I don't believe this was made in the Netherlands. Perhaps the first owner bought the pendant (probably Italy) and then this beautiful necklace to make a beautiful match. But this will always remain a mystery. In any case, what could I have done without the help of two fantastic other collectors??

Marga, I couldn't find the animal head (?), but the one with 6 or 9 is from your country, used to mark chains for their weight!
1 beeing for 2 to 5 grams and so on up to 100 for 500 grams.
If yours is a 6, your chain must weight between 26 and 30 grams, and if 9, between 41 and 45!

could the second mark then be the Dutch dolphin / fish, used from 1859-1893? (I see maybe the tail up, and the head down)
    13. kyratango kyratango, 9 years ago
Woooh, Themuse, I think you got it!
The tail part is the same three pointed shape :-)

Kyra and themuse FANTASTIC, MANY THANKS for BOTH OF YOU !! You solved the mark mysteries.
It's shows again how small is the world ! This necklace and pendant I got from Germany. I've been looking at marks from many countries but had no idea to look at the marks from my own country. And there lies the clue. Indeed Kyra the mark has a 6 which means the chain alone has a weigh of 30 grams.
And themuse was right about the Dutch dolphin used from 1859-1893.
The pendant is not marked. I don't think this was made in the Netherlands. Perhaps the first owner in the past bought the pendant and after that a matching chain? But will be always a mystery. In any case, what could I have done without your help!
    16. kyratango kyratango, 9 years ago
      You're welcome Marga :-)
Themuse had the best eye to identify the dolphin ! We both are a good team!
    17. Agram.m Agram.m, 9 years ago
Indeed Kyra I only can agree! You are both French?
    18. themuse themuse, 9 years ago
Im from Texas, actually! And really, I just got lucky with recognizing the dolphin.

Both pendants and the chain are so very well made, what an outstanding craftmanship! I have never seen better micromosaic jewellry! I ones saw a pietra dura table in a museum that blew me away, this does to! Oh my, where do you find these things?! (You don't have to answer that :))
    25. Agram.m Agram.m, 9 years ago
Hello Elisabethan thanks again for your wonderful comment and love. One of these days I will tell you in private how I find this. It's a story of its own.
