Here is what is stated and also what he stated about himself:
""Joe Lamanno has been a well known Seattle artist at the Pike Place Market since 1977. His work is all about COLOR, BRILLIANCE, and IMMEDIACY!
"I DISCOVERED MY PASSION in the 1990's when my wife, Geri, presented me with a birthday gift of five art lessons with internationally known artist and teacher Ilona Ritter. Ilona opened my eyes and taught me to look at everything with the eyes of a painter. I remained with her for three more years. I began with oils but quickly moved into pastels because of their brilliance and immediacy. I draw only on black paper and layer color on color, which contributes to the vividness and liveliness of my drawings. My favorite subjects are Market Scenes, Still Life, and Musical Instruments. My work is influenced by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists - especially Henry Matisse: The Bard of Color."
"I am a two time winner of the annual Pike Place Market Festival Poster. I also do commissioned art by request. A few of my larger pieces include a mural for the Future Gentrification of Seattle and a large painting for the owner of Simply Seattle." "
