This is my first payphone I ever had. I have UPDATED this phone since my past post on it a few years ago. The two payphones I have, this is the older one (1950's). Newer circuit was installed by previous owner. Not happy of that, like "old original" better! The receiver was changed with one that would have been used in its days. I got around to mounting onto wall with a "backer board". The purpose of a backer board is so if you need to remove off wall you would have a quicker way. Painted with satin black makes a nice match to phone.
This is a "post pay" phone unlike my newer payphone (1960's) . One would dial number, then when the person on other end would answer you would deposit your dime. Other party would NOT hear you until you deposited your dime!
I used those phones ALOT back in the "Old Days. Sometimes, I miss those old days.

I really like how you have it displayed.
We used one of these in the last two homes we had. I changed the cord to a long one and disconnected the needing a dime feature.
Do you know if these will work on the new digital lines we have now?
Doesn't seem so long ago we were using these. Guess that should scare the sh-t out of me! LOL!
Actually, the public phones they removed here in the past 4-5 yrs. were almost identical.
AzTom, I had the new digital phone line for a short time with AT&T, as soon as I found out my old phones will not work with the "voip" system, (think I have it correct...) got rid of that! Now with old land line works well.

We have no option here, it's digital or none.
Now that this has been thrown in my face, I would be a fool if I didn't try to grab some of those boxes! I still see a few around with the Dutch crown. Going to see if it's not too late to grab some!
