Repo for sure .... Sorry
Yes, I agree that it's repro. I've seen many of these and the companies that make them are really good at giving them a nice vintage look.
Even though it's a repro, it's still a pretty cool item!!
I'm ok with it being a repo, but I'd like to know HOW you tell the difference
Hi
baliles
Just by the colours applied,(to bright and no patina) all the time the older cast iron Bank show lot of wear, specially where the Monkey hold the coin, also at the square base, they show being use a lot, but beware even if they have wear, they are very good to reproduce those old cast iron bank.
But this one, they don't try to make it look old, because they sale as the reproduction.
Like Scott mention, still nice example.

Like Alsn said, the paint is a quick give away but some old originals have been repainted.
The casting is a good way to tell. On the original old one the cast iron will be much smoother and more precise. The repos have gaps where the fit together and have a rough sandy finish.
As for none painted items, the stuff you see that is reddish brown were artificially aged. Good old cast iron should be almost black.
If you have a chance to be around some originals, study what has been mentioned here and you will see real quick what we're talking about.
I don't have an issue with these being made, just with them being sold as originals. You that a lot on Etsy and ebay.
Thank you all, that's great information. I appreciate that you each took the time to explain. It will definitely be helpful in the future!
