    I have found it tricky to photograph this Kurata bowl/ashtray.
    Believe me it is much better than I can show!
    It has an interesting decor and that Japanese way of incorporating bold with subtle.

    Made with black glass, blue cased interior and then a clear case over that.
    The exterior of the clear case has been given a gorgeous mother of pearl finish, almost an oil slick look.
    As you can see the finish has not been applied on the external ribs so the black glass shows through.

    I am constantly surprised at the work that has come from Kurata.
    The designers and artisans there were clearly given a degree of freedom to create that has resulted in such a skilful and varied output.

      That really is an interesting series of techniques !!!!
      It's got an enamel look to it: the ribs/bands ... the turquoise interior ...

      That's great you have the box for this. I see that a lot.
      I guess Ash trays were big back in the 50s and 60s, but I don't see many anymore

      You have probably worked out Japanese glass is my thing, and Kurata are a big favourite.
