This is a well made box. I collect antique razors and shaving/Barber items. I originally thought this may hold 2 straight razors but really think it my be a kit for an engineer, don't know?? In the first compartment is a pin attached to a handle, possibly ivory. Second compartment has a round tin, silver plated. the other pieces are missing. Came with a small skeleton key to lock it. One of my favorite finds. Inlaid in brass.

Kyratango thanks so much. Even with the information you supplied I still can't find it anywhere else. I'm so impressed with the knowledge you guys have on these rare items. I think my mission now will be to attempt to replace the items that are missing from the kit I have. Thanks again you made my week. All the best!!!!

Oops, I forgot to welcome you on CW :-)
These necessaries are encountered in France principally as they were Napoleon's campaigns era!
There were very complete ones with gilded silver accessories in red chagrin leather.
Usually wood ones like yours had two razors, a Sunday hook to hang the mirror on tent fabric, twoo folding hook handles to pull the boots on, metal pot for shaving soap, a tooth brush, and tiny corkscrew.
I have an incomplete one, never been able to find instruments that fit!
Thanks again. I'm really happy with this find. I almost passed it up. I can only imagine its history. Great quality. Funny how the key survived and the other items have been misplaced over 2oo plus years. Thanks for the welcome.
