I won this pretty little lamp on a our local auction, the photos they had listed for it were shockas!! but I thought for $10.00 and that is NZ $'s, it was worth the punt, it looked interesting and I could see the cord was an oldie..
Well! when I unpacked, it took my breath away, now! I know it's not going to appeal to everyone but it brought a tear to my eye, it is the most beautiful little lamp I have seen for a long time and I cant stop looking at it!..
I think!! it is Chinese Spinach Jade, quite heavy and carved in a bamboo shape with bamboo leaves to one side..and bizarrely a jade grape vine curling around it..but! it works.
What I would like to know is it Spinach Jade or Jade even?..and what are the grapes made from, are they Jade too! all the pieces are quite translucent, as you can see from some of the grapes and with the top of the bamboo stand were the light fitting sits inside...and when do you think it may date from, I am thinking 1920/30/50s??...I have no idea so any help would be much appreciated.
I don't mind what it is made from it is a lovely little table lamp, which I am going to use but it would be nice to know.

I think the photos on Trade Me are generally pretty woeful Inky, but you got a win for sure.
It is breathtaking. I don't know my stone so won't comment on the type of jade but the carving is amazing.
That bamboo trunk seems simple but is not, the leaves and grapes are just glorious.
I hope someone can help. It deserves a special place.
Can't help inky, but just a beautiful work of art!! No wonder you keep looking at it!:)
This is a gorgeous bit of carving Inky !.... Can't imagine it being wasted on anything but something in the jade family...just my guess of course. :)

Dark green seems to be nephrite jade, pink and purple a dyied stone (can see the dye concentrate in the natural cracks).
