This is a seldom seen Clarke Model 034 - Pink Diamond Quilted Mother of Pearl. It is one of Clarke's earliest models advertised in the Pottery Gazette Diary in 1888. The maker is unknown but possibly an English firm. However, Joseph Webb patented the air trap diamond quilted technique on behalf of the Phoenix Glass Company in 1887. And, it is well known that Phoenix produced a line of fairy lamps for Clarke in the US.
The lamp is three pieces consisting of a shade, clear lamp cup, and matching base with four pulled and embossed frosted petal feet. The shade and matching base are clear acid marked "Clarke's Patent Fairy". The shade is marked on the lower rim and the matching base is marked on the interior bottom. And, of course, the clear beaded rim lamp cup is embossed in typical fashion.
The 1888 ad shows a rainbow satin DQMOP which I would love to find. But, should I be so lucky, I would probably have to get a job in order to add it to my collection.
Stunningly exquisite!
Fit for a fairy queen!
