An interesting brass object which I presume to be made in China or Japan. The length measures: 8cm; width: 2.5cm; height: 3cm. The engravings depict a fishing scene on the base, the sides have fishes and insects. I am not an expert, but believe it to be very old. It seems to have a specific function, there is what seems to be a key hole; no key available, but when unlocked the spindle can be drawn out. Perhaps to attach some kind looped tape. No scales to weigh, but is substantial in weight which suggests it is brass. On the other hand it may well be a clever fake! Anyone able to identify it or provide some further information.
