This is another piece of jewellery made from the big opal rub shown earlier.
Again it is long and narrow to make best use of the "colour bar" across the base of the stone. The stone is 22 x 6mm and comes in at 2.3ct.
The story goes that one of the daughters took the rub with her to Europe in the 1960's, and this cocktail ring is the creation she came back with.
It's hallmarked 14k with the marks of Constantfabrieken, a Dutch ring designer and manufacturer active in the 1960's to 80's.
The design is very swinging 60's retro, and my wife loves it. It covers a whole finger joint and she says it's very comfortable.
The opal is just extraordinary, and its size makes it an eye-catching piece of jewellery. One day we might get it remodeled to put a (double?) halo of diamonds round the outside, but for now we're enjoying it for what it is.
I love opals.
I really like the setting as is! Nothing to distract from the beautiful opal!
