Found this in the case at Salvation Army this morning. Thought it was really beautiful with it's faux pearl and Amethyst accents along the length of the handle. Some of the gilt design is worn away, but it's engraved so it could be redone with some gold leaf or very lightly rubbed in paint to fill in the worn sections. It's 8 " long and has a soft oval pad on the back that was covered in what looked like kid skin. It had dried out and was crumbling so I just removed it leaving the soft felt underneath. It's a a nail buffer but I've never seen this shape with a long handle. They usually have a center grip type handle. Not sure of the materials either. It has the appearance of yellow aged mother of pearl and the edges are outlined in a caramel color. Celluloid or bakelite from the 20's is my guess. The complete set must have been something to behold ! -Mike-
Thanks for the first "love" on my what's it ! Caper :)
It's a nail buff!
Can't you imagine sitting in a lounge with that in an elegant hand buffing away?
I figured as much Karen it's just you rarely see that shape in most sets. I wonder what happened to the rest of the set ? I'd buy it in a heart beat that's for sure. It sure would have been elegant ! :)
I'm with Karen, I can imagine a lady lounging on a beautiful divan polishing her nails with this lovely buffer. And yes, would be wonderful to see the entire set. Thanks for sharing, Mike. :)
