Unfortunately I own none of these pieces of Japanese cut glass, but thought some of you might like to see some examples of what the craftsmen in Japan achieve with their handwork.

Edo Kiriko is a lifelong apprenticeship in Japan and masters of it have the highest respect.
I can't imagine the hours spent cutting these patterns and the skill required to place them correctly.

Many Edo Kiriko patterns are a development of traditional patterns from kimono silk and other art forms. The design of kiriko has grown recently to include some more modern designs, and they have started to use more space in their design, instead of these intensely filled objects.

Note: these are not my photos, and all come from commercial sources.

Thank you Karen, very informative not to mention a delight to see. I think posts like this certainly have a place on C.W.
Sometime ago someone who did very educational posts got heavily criticised for not owning the glass used in the post.....a view I found puzzling!

I would love to own some Edo Kiriko like this but will need to save up.

I hope this post stays up a while. I agree Peggy that it is good to have examples for learning even though I don't own these.

Its all so beautiful, I wonder how much the second one would set a person back ?

It is wonderful stuff I agree Bladerunner.
As a general guide, a really simple pair of glasses like mine, not from a celebrity craftsman, is around the $300-$400 mark for a pair.
I would imagine that piece which is master cut would be around $1000.
