This came thru my mothers estate and something I never saw. I am guessing it was from early 1900's. Is it suppose to be tarnished/dark? Or polished silver? The stones get cold and could be glass. But they are not clear clear. Anything else they could be?
    There is one earring too.

Hi jplamm, it's hard to tell from pics what the stone is, but i'm thinking green amethyst or emerald? It would be a shame to use glass in such a stunning intricate piece! Definitely old. 800 stands for 80% silver 20% other metals. I believe this mark is used in Europe, but i could be wrong.

Please don't clean it. It's a stunning piece.

Yes, Gillian, i forgot to say the same thing. It looks so beautiful the way it is, i think it was meant to have this look.

Hi, your necklace is a beauty!
It has age patina, it is better to keep it as is :-)
The stones are probably green stained calcedony also called (wrongly...) chrysopase
      .

You have inspired me - I will wear this to holiday party tomorrow night.
Thank you so much. This site is awesome.
Something empowering to wear a necklace that my Great Great Grandmother probably wore : )

Italian. You see this style with all sorts of semi-precious stones. Pendants & necklaces more frequently, earrings, rings & bracelets as well. Circa 1900.

Yours is quite a nice example. Most are simpler.
