The people I bought these from were burning candles in them, but had been told they were used in Africa for seed or grain. Seems reasonable with the holes being large in the bowls and smaller on the bottom.
They stand about 5 1/4" H and are 5 1/4" to 5 1/2" accross the top of the bowl. They weigh 42.4 ounces and 46.1 ounces. Only one has the "X"
Would love to hear if anyone can name these and confirm their use....
hi
please check out my items on here i have a similar item, mine looks more advanced but i have been searching for two years for an answer to its use and proper origin
ian
wow sorry i'm just so so thrilled to find such similar items....are you in the uk or america.....i have a few questions regarding yours if you have the time....
Bought mine from a walk in customer who said someone told her they were from Africa. The only suggestions I've had from people are similar to what the lady was told, that they were used for sifting grains or seeds. I would like to find someone who knows for sure. They are nice pieces and are a heavy wood with nice patina.
i will take some further pictures of mine which will show the rough workings.
I am just so so pleased to have something similar to mine after searching for so long. tHE MAIN PROBLEM I HAVE HAD IS NOT KNOWING WHAT TO CALL IT OR WHAT ITS ORIGINAL USE WAS SO GOOGLE SEARCHES ETC HAVE PROOVED USELESS...sorry hit the caps key...lol
