Sherman Necklace circa 1950's

Sherman like many makers did not mark a lot of their jewellery made of beads. The only thing identifying this set as Sherman Jewellery is that the earrings are signed Sherman.

Though often unsigned, Sherman's distinctive and consistent use of particular findings, such as flower clasps, double, triple or quadruple marquise set ends, extenders with 5 beads, and engraved findings on memory wire bracelets, make it easy to attribute pieces to him, particularly when they came signed with exact match earrings or pins. Again Sherman insisted on Swarovski for his beads. His most spectacular designs use chains to create dramatic bib neclaces. Interestingly, the use of chain has allowed more of these to survive intact, as beads strung on fibre have a tendency to cut through and destroy the necklaces.
