      Wade Whimsies

Wade Whimsies were born in the early 1950s. Following the crash in the electrical porcelain insulators market, Wade’s Ulster branch started producing these small figures. They were originally intended as pocket friends for children. The first Wade Whimsies were produced and distributed from 1954 to 1965. After a brief break in production, new designs were sold once more between 1967 and 1987. Today, Whimsies are created only for special commissions. Wade Whimsies are considered highly collectible, and are particularly popular in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. They can be found at thrift shops, yard sales, antique stores, junk shops, and from online dealers or auction sites like eBay.
      The First Wade Whimsies
The first Wade Whimsies were made and distributed from 1954 to 1961, and featured ten sets of miniature animal models. Some were sold, while others were given away as promotional items with tea. The sets are made up of the following collections of animals: see attached link for more info. and dates.
