Dinky Toys 949 Wayne Former School Bus.
This is the fourth 949 that I have had over the years. Every one of them had issues of one sort or another. Common fault on these are the rear dual rims, made of weak plastic and suffer breakage. Had two with that problem, both bought on ebay and not mentioned in ad. Other common issue is floors bend upwards at rear wheels and cause interior problems, likely caused by little Johnny trying to ride the bus. Windshields seem to suffer breakage as well.
This bus had none of the issues, but had suffered extensive paint loss. I never restore toys, and prefer to leave them, but this one was bad. I think it had lived in water for some time.
Cost me next to nothing, so I took the easy way out on this repaint and did not remove body from baseplate. Windows on inside are dirty from years of harsh storage. Paint was hand removed instead of the usual chemical stripping process sane people use. Paint went on bad. Lost some paint removing tape.
Because I have very little invested I was not concerned about trying to make a perfect school bus again, opting to do a charter bus instead. Not going to win any awards, but it is unique.

Paint looks good in the pictures, and the windows look like they would have back then when you could smoke on the bus!!

Thank you pickrknows. lol on the tar stained windows. I remember many things from those years just covered in yellow. I am a bit fussy on paint, and like a nice flat surface. I would have tried a wet sand, but the chips that came off with the masking tape makes it not worth any extra effort. It was fun to do anyway, and that is the main thing.
