It's not an easy one to find, so seeing this one in a favorite antique store for only $5.... MINE. LOL.
Crown tops, generally, aren't worth much. I'd still have picked it up at $10, though.
There is a flaw on the back, pictured, that was done by the machine making it. Gouged and raised ridge of glass on this pre-Prohibition piece.
I do all the white letters by hand with a fine-tipped painter's pen.
How they formatted the embossing is interesting in that they didn't center everything.
This is machine-made but lacks a maker's mark.

Hey Spirit Bear. Created this account just to post a comment, so not real familiar with the site at this point. I'm a Luders and have been diving into the history of my family a little the past couple years. We have some bottles and pictures around the family from the days of Luders Bottling Works. Anyways, would love to be able to chat a little over email or whatever works for u if ur willing! I'm not an expert on bottles themselves but myself and my dad I are always open to learning new things about our past.

You're a Luders, but the family then was Luder?
    3. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
OleBodie, I'm not. But the bottle isn't very valuable. Most crowns aren't. Especially in my area.

It's Luders. Couldn't tell ya why your bottle has the apostrophe. My dad has around 8 Luders bottles and I can't remember any having that, but I could be mistaken.

Sounds like he has a neat collection. Do you know their exact beginning and end date for the bottling years? I know they changed names a few times.
Here is my only other Luders bottle, which doesn't have an apostrophe as you noted:

Very cool. I'm a fan of the blue! I believe my dad has just 1 of those. We have one of our brown bottles on display at Pigeon Hill Brewing Company where I used to work if you've never been in. One of the owners, Michael Brower, has some of his collection in there. I really am not sure on the dates of bottling. I met a gentleman when working at Wesco that did a lot of research on the history of Muskegon, and he did some research on my family. He gave me a binder with some dates in regards to where the family was living/business addresses etc.. They owned a Saloon as well, not sure how that played in with the bottling exactly. The dates I remember off the top of my head are around 1880-1915. I'll have to find that along with some pictures of our bottles and a copy of the building we have somewhere in the family. I'm currently living in Florida so everything is with my dad up in Muskegon!

That particular variant comes in the aqua and in a much harder to find light greenish.
I've known of Pigeon Hill, for they salvaged what was left of Muskegon Brewery (now the location of Cole's Bakery).
This bottle dates to after 1915, so they had something for a while after that.
You're pretty far from home. Lovely season currently. So many colours!

I see, don't think I've seen a light green. I know other family members have some bottles, I should find out what they have. Yeah I remember before they were open they posted a video of Michael in there. I was actually gifted a light fixture from there that we put up in our house before we moved down here. Pretty neat how large Muskegon Brewing was, and the fact that Coles is still operating there. You are correct, it definitely was longer than 1915 because I have 2 great aunts that are still alive that lived above the business. One is closing in on 90 I believe. Yes we are, we both miss Fall. Enjoying what we can down here because we will be moving back next summer.

Thought I responded to this, but I guess not.

The light green is less common. Called aqua green.
Nice gift that was. Have you seen the trays? I think they put out three different ones.
Pretty cool your aunts lived above the business.

No worries. I'm obviously not the best at checking myself!

I see, I would like to see an Aqua Green.

I have only seen 1 tray I believe, in the Pigeon Hill taproom. That one is very cool. Would love to have one.
It is pretty interesting. Times were different back then!

Very cool, thanks for sharing! Looks like quite the collection.
I plan on getting involved and doing some more "digging" when we move back to town. Hope to start a collection of my own or at least learn some things!

He's dug most of the area accessible in Muskegon proper, I'm afraid. Most all of the accessible good areas are heavily dug.

Oh, by the way, we have a bottle club that typically meets the third Sunday of every month in Grandville. It's the West Michigan or Grand Rapids Bottle Club. They just made a Facebook page, so it's a good place to join.

Oh I just meant "digging" in terms of research and making myself more knowledgeable. Poor choice of word lol. Thanks for letting me know! I'll look for that page and when we move back, check out a meeting!

      Also, merry Christmas to you.
