Couldn't have found a better Christmas Gift for my dear friends.

But before I would purchase (not educated on Hindu Deities) I sent a pic from my cell...they replied to text so quickly. She wanted it :)

Well I'm happy they live in a very large home because this is sooo large
I'm 5'7" and this is just a little shorter than me and about 3.5 4ft wide.
They were surprised last night when they picked it up to see the size of it.
Not in perfect condition one little tear at the top between two cows and some staining along the edges (border where the cows are)
but still it's so beautiful. They have already picked a spot to hang it and she is very happy.

From what she said Lord Krishna is in two forms on this.

Krishna is the 8th incarnation or avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Pichhwai are intricate paintings which portray Lord Krishna. They exist in the holy town of Nathdwara in the Rajasthan state of India.

Krishna is shown in different moods, body postures, and attire more commonly found on a cloth or paper. It is a very ancient form of art passed on from generation to generation and it has a very devotional theme towards Lord Krishna.

The purpose of Pichhwais, other than its artistic appeal, is to narrate tales of Krishna to the illiterate. They have become the main export of Nathdwara and are in much demand among foreign visitors in the area.

These artists mostly live in Chitron ki gali (Street of paintings) and Chitrakaron ka mohallah (colony of painters) and make a close community with constant interaction. It is no wonder that many times a Pichhwai painting is a group effort, where several skillful painters work together under the supervision of a master artist.

Tejal absolutely loves this! I think it's one of the best items I have ever found for her.
I need to share pictures of another piece I found for them....have to check and see if those photos are still on this computer....HP had this computer for 2.5 months and I'm not sure if "ALL" my pic's are still here. That piece was from the "Art Institute of Chicago" an auction, some type of fund raiser.
