This was my Gradmothersecond sad iron. It weighs a ton. I use it as a paper weight. She used to heat it on her wood burning stove and use a thick potholder like glove to hold the iron. Yikes! My mom kept the wood burning stove and we had it ouside in our patio. She showed us as children how it was used. Boy, I remember thinking I was sure glad for modern technology, because it was hot and heavy. I would like to know what year it was made?

Cool! I have a pair that looks like yours. I use them as book ends. Mine have the No. 7 on them inside a star, how about Yours? If you find out who made them, and when, I would be very interested to know myself, Good Luck!

Not sure if they were still making these after the irons with detachable handles were made. Those came out around 1870 so this could be from before 1870 or around that time.
