I have owned this since the late 1980's. It was found at a facility that was Japanese owned and Japanese people would come over from Japan and spend much time there enjoying themselves. I don't know what type of marble, stone or material it is made of and what it actually depicts. It is really beautiful. I hope you can see the details and colors that run through it. I don't know anything else about it. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
It looks like they were copying 'Meerschaum'. It looks like it is combining Western and Eastern elements.
Thank you...I will research that, but in a quick research I see it is made of Sepiolite meerschaum ( i/?m??r???m/ MEER-shawm or /?m??r??m/ MEER-sh?m, German for foam of the sea) is a soft white clay mineral, often used to make tobacco pipes...which this is a hard almost marble type material with bluish colored lines go through it...but thanks you gave me a great starting point!
I have this exact same pipe looks old and very heavy. intricately and very ornately carved did you ever find out more about it
Ponchodaddy85....Other than what was posted above, I haven't found anything else out. Meershaum is soft and mine is very hard type of marble or something like it and it does have some weight to it. I was really hoping to find out more! I would love to see pics of yours! I have never seen another one like it! Do you know anything about yours?
Mine is the same as yours I was thinking marble or maybe even ivory. I know nothing either.
