We've had this Doorstop since forever and never thought about it much. Lately, there have been quite a few of these uploaded and most of them were facing right. Were the left-facing Boston Terriers ever reproduced and is this a bona fide vintage doorstop? It doesn't have the red tongue or lip that they are supposed to have. When were the reproductions made? The necklace was my wife's doing...at Christmas he gets a red & green one. Any ideas on this one? Oh, and Happy New Year everyone. BOB
Not sure if this is a reproduction or not. There are a few here on CW that can tell you for sure. I can tell you that my reproduction Boston Terriers are about 10 1/2" tall. But, my original is only about 9 1/2" tall and have much thinner legs and rib cage than the reproductions I have. My original also has ears that stand slightly different that the reproductions.
The reproductions have been made for quite some time now. I have some reproduction doorstops that were made in the late 1970's or early 1980's. But, they could go back further than that. The reproductions are also a rougher feeling casting than the originals. My original has a really smooth finish and the reproductions are a much grainier finish.
If this isn't a reproduction, then it would be a rare one. Only about 10% of the Boston Terriers ever made were "Left Facing". Most were right facing. Hope this helps.

Thanks jscotto363! I re-measured my Terrier and it is actually 10" tall exactly. It is also quite smooth and although it is not shown directly, the screw shown in photo 1. has never been opened/unscrewed. The legs are also spindly and the seams are tight and smooth. I feel that it's right but when you haven't seen a repro to compare, it is difficult to know for sure. We've bought it from an estate sale over 30 years ago and this is how it looked. RER
I personally believe this is an original. But, others may have a different opinion. He looks right to me. As I said before, the "Left Facing" Boston Terriers are the most sought after ones because so few were made.
