My inlaws purchased this massive lamp in Pakistan in 1950. It is 45" tall, 13.5" square at the base. Most of the surface is tooled rather than cast. There are five tiers with, from lowest to highest, 15, 13, 11, 9, and 7 recesses for wicks. The finial is a standing lion, and the entire piece rests on the back of a turtle. We know very little about it. The closest I have seen are the lamps in temples in southern India. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any way to re-orient the pics? The original files are vertcal, but this is how they loaded.

Hi there ... The problem is resolved by editing the pix. I use an iPad but I think it works this way: remove the pix one by one, edit ... I just very slightly adjust an edge, then reload the pic and it will go to the right way up. Do the same for the other pix.

Yes, this indeed is a South Indian oil lamp. circa 1900s. Are you interested in selling it?

Perhaps. I am more interested in knowing its significance and value.

Yes this is a South Indian - specifically Kerala - oil lamp, used for votive or religious purposes. Late 19th, early 20th. It is made by the cire perdue method and then finished off by hand. Each piece as such is a one-off.
Congratulations, this is a beautiful piece
